You Take My Breath Away

Phew! This took me all day, and the bloody scanner made her dress look blue! Grr. Oh well, I know better than to use colored pencil.

But I was actually not displeased at all with the way this one turned out. Nothing like I hoped of course, but waaayy better than I feared. It's a commission for my friend Amanda. It's her and her man, in their Renaissance costumes for dramatic affect.

The story behind the picture comes from before they were together. Amanda had this picture in her head of a woman literally having her breath taken away by the man she loved. The man in Amanda's head looked just like her current man, so when she asked me to draw the picture for her I used them as models. I hope I didn't fail miserably.

It was up to me to come up with the background, so I picked what I saw in my head. lol I don't know, trees just = love for me. I chose to color it after the initial sketch seemed too lifeless. I hope I didn't destroy it in the process. I think I'll feel a lot better about it if Amanda likes it. I know I do, though I don't think it's DaVinci.

Update: Sadly my friend was disappointed with my hard day's artwork.

There's a reason I don't do commissions very often. People are more likely to do a better job of the picture in their head than I will.
